The Federal Funds Rate remains unchanged at 0 to .25%
While the Fed's interest rate decision does not directly impact mortgage rates, today's rates are historically low. Home buyers and home owners can take advantage of these low rates by:
- Buying a new home
- Refinancing to get a lower rate or eliminate mortgage insurance
- Financing home renovations
- Consolidating debt*
- Funding major expenses such as education costs

Single Family Residence Mesquite August permits close to 2019 numbers
The City of Mesquite Building Department issued 21 single family permits vs 23 last year. Pulte Homes of Nevada/Sun City Mesquitewas issued eight permits in August. LHSC, Inc. was issued six permits. Nevada Residential Construction (NRC) took out three permits. Jackson Contracting, Catamount Development, Maves Construction, Inc, and a private builder each took out one permit for new single-family homes.

Las Vegas home prices set record amid pandemic
The median sale price of an existing home in Southern Nevada hit $335,000 in August, a new record, according to the Las Vegas Realtors trade organization. The previous record was $330,000, which was set in July. The rising prices have come despite the coronavirus pandemic, which has battered the economy and sent unemployment skyrocketing. The median price for an existing home last month was up 10% from August 2019, according to the monthly Las Vegas Realtors report. Townhomes and condos sold for a median price of $185,000 last month, a 5% increase from August 2019. Blanchard said the number of homes for sale remains well below the six-month supply generally considered to represent a balanced market.

Mesquite July Building permit Update
The City of Mesquite issued 37 permits for new single family homes in July vs 34 permits issued in July 2019. The leading builder was Pulte Homes Sun City which received 15 permits. Nevada Residential Construction (NRC) received 9 permits for new single family homes. NRC builds homes in The Reserve, Boulder Heights, Cambria and The Hilltop Town Homes. LHSC, was issued 6 permits and Andrus Development was issued four permits. View Point Contractors LLC, was issued 2 permits and Jackson Contracting one permit.

May Building Permits Holding Steady
Last year the city of Mesquite Building Department issued 11 permits for new homes vs 16 permits this May, The total number of permits issued in 2020 dropped by only one to 125 this year vs 126 last year. Pulte Homes of Nevada did not take out any permits for new homes in Sun City.
